BioMedTech 2012 Distance Learning Programs
BioMedTech: STEM – Health and Wellness Research, From the Bench to the Bedside
Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC), in partnership with the Cleveland Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) and in collaboration with WVIZ ideastream, presents the BioMedTech: Students Translating and Exploring Medicine (BMT: STEM) 2012 Distance Learning Series. This four-part series, presented via Interactive Video Distance Learning, engages students (grades 7-12) in exploring how diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease (DOC) discoveries go from the bench (the laboratory) to the bedside (patient care at the doctor’s office or hospital). Local medical researchers and experts from top medical institutions (Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, Metrohealth Medical Center and University Hospitals at Case Medical Center) will introduce students to the full spectrum of research by presenting their DOC studies. Students will learn how medical experts use laboratory, clinical, population and community research to advance prevention strategies and treatments for DOC patients.
Groups interested in participating in this educational opportunity should contact John Ramicone at john.ramicone@ideastream.org or 216-916-6360. Registration closes three days prior to the broadcast date.
This program is funded through a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) through the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
