School is in Session at Great Lakes Science Center

Each day, a group of scientifically-minded students comes to Great Lakes Science Center and spends their school day creating, exploring and discovering at the MC2 STEM High School. The result of a partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), this unique school setting furthers the missions of both organizations and brings scientific education to life.

Focusing on STEM education – science, technology, engineering and math - the STEM High School is a project-based learning environment that exposes students to the kinds of design and implementation practices scientists and engineers use. As they become innovators, logical thinkers, inventors and strong communicators, students get to experience GLSC exhibits, films and programming that turn scientific theory into reality.

The Science Center has provided new state-of-the-art classrooms and educational technology for the school and collaborated to create a curriculum that incorporates Science Center resources. School is in session year-round, with students working for 10 weeks, taking a three-week break and then repeating that pattern for four 10-week terms throughout the year.

The STEM High School furthers Great Lakes Science Center’s mission to help people of all ages achieve and maintain greater science literary in order to sustain and improve the quality of life in Greater Cleveland, the Great Lakes region and beyond. The Science Center is committed to initiatives that will drive our economy forward, and the STEM School is critical to the future of our region. Deeper, more immersive STEM education is one of the keys to our region’s success in the increasingly global economy.

We invite you to see what the STEM High School students are up to and view the custom-built classrooms housed on the Science Center’s ground level, formerly the Great Lakes gallery. Overlooking North Coast Harbor, these spaces are equipped with the latest technology, soft seating areas and more to enhance the learning experience.
